Details:
Name: Vorrik Firebrand
Gender: Male
Age: 250
Species: Dwarf
Class: Alchemist
Appearance:
Just as all dwarves are, Vorrik stands short and stout compared to the other humanoid races of the realms. His features are all but entirely concealed under a gigantic mane of light brown hair and a bushy beard of the same color whose length dips just past his waistline, leaving only his fiery green eyes and a large, rounded nose. Vorrik’s beard is lovingly cared for and is interwoven with steel bands bearing various alchemical symbols and his moustache is wide and slightly curved thanks to one of the many beard-care products he has devised with his alchemy. Vorrik’s broad dwarven shoulders and large muscles honed with over two centuries worth of training with axe and pick are most often covered by his custom crafted steel-scale armor which enables him with decent amount of protection and flexibility to concentrate on crafting and handling his various alchemical explosives.
Personality:
Vorrik is just as jovial and boastful as all other dwarves. He loves a good drink, a good brawl, and a good axe. There is rarely a moment when he is against sharing a friendly jab or insult to those nearby and there are even fewer where he fails to laugh with one shot right back at him. It’s the essence of his cheerful nature, just as all other dwarves are. A good laugh and a bit of fun is everything a good dwarf strives for in his free time, and that is exactly what Vorrik aims for as well.
That isn’t to say Vorrik can’t take himself seriously, though. Whenever he’s working on alchemical formulas, planning, or performing other critical tasks, Vorrik can only be described as quiet and lasered into whatever task is at hand. The friendly jabs die to a minimum while he focuses on matters that essentially mean life or death. For example, if he were to imbalance a particularly explosive alchemical equation, it stands that Vorrik could blow up a large chunk of whatever building he’s in, himself included.
Ever since he was a young little dwarf, no taller than his mother’s bedrock, Vorrik has found himself with a particular fascination with fire. The way tongues of glowing orange flickered in his eyes. He found that fire was an uncontrollable force of nature. Capable of unadulterated destruction, yet when used in the right ways, creation. The comforting warmth given by a candle could quickly become a roaring firestorm that could roast a dwarf alive. The pure joy in having such an unpredictable power in his hands filled Vorrik with the desire to pursue the creation of the world’s purest flame and most destructive force: the sun.
Abilities:
Simply put, Vorrik is an alchemist. He specializes in using the forces of magic to manipulate substances to create magical effects. With the use of extensive alchemical equations in the form of circles, Vorrik is capable of creating dozens of basic alchemical compounds he can use for simple cause and effect which are largely based on the elements, though many of his favorite formulas revolve around making his specialty a lot more useful. One of his favorite creations is a slow burning fluid that can be ignited with a specific rune. Vorrik particularly enjoys coating the blade of his axe in the fluid and lighting it on fire, adding to his crazed dwarf aesthetic.
Vorrik’s specialty, however, lies in the realms of bomb-making and their use. Delayed explosives, impact detonation, precise demolition, flame bombs, shrapnel, and even bombs that deatonate with elements other than fire or steel, such as lightning, are within the realm of his ability to create and apply in the proper scenario. He most often stores his bombs in the form of metal balls attached to a belt and secret pockets under his beard, though any place on his body is a perfectly valid place to carry a bomb in his eyes.
One of Vorrik’s claims to fame is his extensive use of bombard-level cannons. He enjoys making use of these weapons during sieges on account of their thunderous cacophony and the sheer destruction properly measured volleys can wreak upon the walls of enemy castles and formations. However, cannons of Vorrik’s design are on a size equivalent of the Russian’s Tsar Cnnon or the Flemish Supergun in terms of size and rarely last more than a few volleys before breaking down in one form or another. As a result, Vorrik’s cannons are never maintained between campaigns and must be hand crafted in preparation for large battles and sieges (read: confirmed with other RPers before use)
Of course, having such incredible destructive power at the end of a fuse comes with drawbacks. Vorrik’s cannons are difficult to move and cumbersome to load. Each one requiring a large crew and even small cranes to successfully load their massive payload and requiring copious amounts of gunpowder to provide the blast to launch said payload at the correct velocity to cause optimal damage makes a line of cannons particularly weak to even small groups of enemy soldiers breaking through the infantry lines and well-placed fire arrows/spells.
History:
Summary: Distinguishing himself from his dwarven brethren with the sheer potency of his explosives and becoming a chief siege engineer to a dwarven king.
